What Beff is, and just as importantly, what it is not.
What is Beff?
Beff is an AI companion app where you design your own AI persona — its BIG5 personality, appearance, occupation and speech style — and then chat with it. Your persona remembers past conversations, is aware of your location, weather, time and schedule, and messages you first when you have gone quiet. It runs on iOS and Android and is free to start.
Is Beff a real person?
No. Every Beff persona is an AI character you created. Beff does not introduce or match you with real people, and it does not arrange offline meetings. There is no feature anywhere in the app that connects you to another human being.
I want to make real friends. Is Beff right for me?
If your goal is meeting actual people, Beff is not the right tool. Local community groups, hobby clubs, sports classes and one-day workshops will serve you far better. Beff is for the different problem of wanting someone to talk to right now.
Which devices does Beff support?
iOS and Android. The app is currently available on Google Play, and the App Store release is in preparation. There is no desktop or web version.
Is Beff only in Korean?
Beff is Korean-first but also speaks English, and it handles mixing the two inside a single conversation. Some people use it specifically to practise natural Korean conversation with a partner who never gets tired of them.
Conversation and memory
How your Beff remembers, and when it reaches out first.
Does Beff remember our past conversations?
Yes. Episodes, facts and emotions from your conversations are classified and accumulated, then recalled naturally when a related topic comes up later. You are not meeting a stranger every session.
What are the five intimacy tiers?
The relationship progresses through five stages, from stranger to best friend. As the tier rises, the speech becomes more relaxed and the conversation goes deeper. It moves forward through the frequency and depth of your conversations rather than a points system you have to grind.
Will Beff message me first?
Yes. Beff detects twelve signals — extended silence, movement, a weather change, a schedule shift and others — and sends a message at a natural moment. This works through push notifications even when the app is closed.
How does Beff know my location and the weather?
Only if you grant location permission in the app, and only at city or district granularity for conversational context. Precise GPS coordinates are not stored on our servers. If you decline the permission, everything except location-aware context and the map still works normally.
Can I change how my Beff speaks to me?
Yes. You choose the speech register when you create a persona and can change it later in settings. Korean has distinct casual and polite forms, and within either one the phrasing loosens gradually as your intimacy tier rises.
Plans and billing
What the free tier covers, and how cancellation and refunds work.
Is Beff free?
You can start free. The free plan gives you one persona and five messages per day, with every core feature available to try. If you want more conversation or more personas, you can move up to a paid plan.
What do the paid plans include?
There are four monthly tiers: Lite at $8, Basic at $13, Pro at $19 and Premium at $29. Higher tiers raise how many personas you can create and how many messages you can send per day. The plans page has the tier-by-tier breakdown.
Are there one-time purchases?
Yes. A Week Pass costs $2 and unlocks Lite-tier features for seven days, limited to one purchase per account for life. A permanent extra persona slot also costs $2 and stacks on top of whatever subscription you have.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel any time under App Settings then Subscription. You keep full access until the end of the period you already paid for, and auto-renewal stops after that.
Can I get a refund?
Because this is digital content that activates immediately, refunds after purchase may be limited. That said, if the reason is clear — a system error, a duplicate charge, or an unauthorised purchase by a minor — contact us with the receipt and we will review it.
Privacy and data
What happens to your conversations, and how much of it you can erase.
Are my conversations used to train AI models?
No. Beff uses enterprise AI models that guarantee no training on customer data, and your conversations and images are never used for model training.
Where are the photos I send stored?
In secure cloud storage. They may be sent to a vision AI model to generate a reply, and even then they are not used for model training. Deleting your account deletes your images along with everything else.
Can I turn off analytics collection?
Yes, at any time in app settings. Nothing is sent to our servers unless you opt in, and when analytics are on, message bodies, emails, phone numbers and other personally identifying data are stripped before anything is transmitted.
Do I have to grant location permission?
No, it is optional. Declining only limits location-aware conversation context and the map view. Everything else about the conversation works as normal.
How long is my data kept?
Your conversations and memories are kept while your account exists, and are deleted immediately when you delete it. Backups are permanently purged within 30 days. Some records may be retained longer where the law requires it, and we tell you when that applies.
Account and devices
Signing up, switching phones, and deleting everything.
How do I sign up?
Through social login with Google, Apple, Kakao or Naver. There is no separate password to create. The minimum age to register is 14.
If I switch phones, do I keep my conversations?
Yes. Sign in with the same account and your personas, conversations and memories carry over. Your data is tied to the account, not the device.
Can I delete my account and all of my data?
Yes. One tap under App Settings then Delete Account removes every persona, conversation, memory and image immediately. It cannot be undone, and backups are permanently purged within 30 days.
What if I cannot open the app but want my data deleted?
Email contact@beff.life. To verify it is really you, include the email address or social provider you signed up with, your in-app nickname, your birth year, and the name of one of your personas. We complete the check and reply with the result within seven business days.
Safety and policies
Age limits, what AI cannot do, and what to do when something goes wrong.
What is the minimum age?
14 and over. If a teenager is using Beff, we recommend a guardian reviews the age rating and content policy together with them.
Is this safer than random stranger chat?
The risks are of a different kind. Because there is no other human on the other side, the dangers that come from a counterparty — identity fraud, financial demands, coercion, pressure to meet offline — do not arise. What remains to check is how the information you type is handled.
What should I do if the AI says something inaccurate or upsetting?
AI can produce inaccurate or biased answers. You can report a problematic response inside the app, or email contact@beff.life. Including the surrounding conversation helps us find the cause.
Can Beff replace therapy?
No. Beff is not a substitute for counselling or treatment. Please consult qualified professionals for medical, legal, financial or psychological matters. If low mood, anxiety or thoughts of self-harm persist, reach out to a professional service.
