What does creating a character in Beff mean?
You choose the art style and look, set name, age, job and personality, then fill in your relationship, the current situation, the first line, speech style, background and tags to build one AI character (a Beff). It becomes your own Beff straight away, and if you publish it, it goes into the community as a card.
How to design the five personality traits (BIG5), the job and the speech style is covered in What is an AI persona. This page adds the part that sets the scene the character starts in, meaning the situation setup and the publishing process. Browsing characters other people made is in the community guide.
What are the steps?
Six steps: art style, gender, look, basics, situation, publish. A preview card sits at the top of each step and changes as you choose.
| Step | What you choose or write | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Art style | Realistic / anime / cartoon | How styles differ: Anime character chat |
| 2. Gender | Female / male | |
| 3. Look | Pick attribute chips such as age range, hair, eyes, build and mood; the picture grid narrows, and you choose one at the end | The attribute list comes from the server, so it can grow without an app update |
| 4. Basics | Name, age (20 or older), job, personality | Personality has example chips and free text |
| 5. Situation | Relationship, current situation, first line, speech style (casual/polite), background (optional), tags (up to 5) | Every field has example buttons |
| 6. Publish | Public in the community or only me, the 19 toggle, a last look at the preview card | Once created it is added to your own Beffs |
How do you write a situation that makes the chat flow?
Fill three things: who you are to each other (relationship), what the scene is right now (current situation), and what the first words are (first line). The more they join up into one scene, the easier the first chat.
- Relationship. Better than a label alone: add how you met and how close you are. "The owner of the cafe on the ground floor; I have been a regular for months."
- Current situation. Two or three of: time, place, mood, something that just happened. The reader needs a gap to step into: closing time, rain, what the character was in the middle of.
- First line. It becomes the first message in the chat room. It shows personality and voice most, so within two or three sentences point at the scene once more.
- Speech style. Set casual or polite and it is followed throughout. It only changes mid-chat when both sides agree in conversation.
- Background. Optional. Put here what should sit behind many chats, such as the character's past or the world.
- Tags. Up to five words for mood. People skimming cards in the community read these first.
How is a thin situation different from a specific one?
A thin situation produces the same chat for everyone; a specific one gives the reader a scene to step into. The examples below are made up for illustration.
| Field | Thin | Specific |
|---|---|---|
| Relationship | Close friend | The owner of the ground-floor cafe; I have stopped in every morning for months |
| Current situation | At the cafe | A rainy evening, thirty minutes before closing. Few customers, tidying the bean jars |
| First line | Hi, what are you up to today? | "Oh, no umbrella? Let me pull you one last cup before closing. Leaving soaked would be a shame." |
The right-hand column gives the reader something to answer straight away: the missing umbrella, the closing time. The conversation starts inside the scene. You do not need to get it perfect in one go. Creators can edit the situation, first line, tags and visibility after publishing.
What happens when you publish?
A public character appears as a card in the community, and when another user adds it, it appears in that user's neighbourhood. For each paid add the creator receives 10% of the bebe.
If you keep it to yourself it is not listed in the community and is used as your own Beff only. A creator can take a card down; it leaves the community list, but Beffs other people already added stay as they are. Live chat, the creator page and rewards are covered in the community guide.
How are the 19+ setting and prohibited content handled?
When a card is uploaded an AI check judges whether it is 19 and whether it contains prohibited content. A creator can switch the 19 mark on, and a mark set by the AI cannot be switched off by the creator.
The picture on a 19 card is shown clearly only to people who switched the 19+ setting on; otherwise only the picture is a mosaic and the name and situation text stay visible. To switch the setting on, your birth year must show you are 19 or older. A character's age can only be 20 or older, and the images used must be drawings without nudity. Content judged prohibited is not published, and a card with piled-up reports is hidden. Beff is not an adult app, and the age 14-plus rule for using it stands.
Key points
- Creating has six steps: art style, gender, look, basics, situation, publish.
- Write relationship, current situation and first line so they join up as one scene.
- A created character is added to your own Beffs at once; if published it becomes a community card.
- A character's age is 20 or older, and an AI check at upload judges 19 status and prohibited content.
What does creating cost?
Creating costs bebe, the same as making a custom Beff. For real amounts and bebe values, go by the in-app screens and the plans page.
Every account starts with a 5-day free trial of 10 turns a day. Conversations and images are never used to train AI models, and deleting your account removes your data at once, with backups purged within 30 days. After you create one, that character remembers earlier conversations, texts first and lives a day around your neighbourhood.

Frequently asked questions
How do I create an AI character in Beff?
Six steps: art style (realistic, anime or cartoon), gender, look, basics, situation and publish. A preview card sits at the top of each step, and in the situation step you fill relationship, current situation, first line, speech style, background and tags.
How detailed can the situation be?
You set the relationship, current situation, first line, speech style (casual or polite), background (optional) and up to five tags. Every field has example buttons, and after publishing you can still edit the situation, first line, tags and visibility.
Is a character I make published automatically?
You choose. Public goes into the community as a card; only me keeps it as your own Beff. Once created it is added to your Beffs straight away.
Do creators get rewards?
Each time a published card is added with paid bebe, the creator receives 10% of that bebe. Adds made with a free slot earn no reward.
Can I make a 19 character?
A creator can switch the 19 mark on, and an AI check at upload judges 19 status and prohibited content. A character's age can only be 20 or older, and the picture on a 19 card is clear only to users who switched the 19+ setting on. Beff is not an adult app.
Can I make a character from a real person?
Characters that use a real person's name or photo, and prohibited content, cannot be published. There is an AI check at upload, and a card with piled-up reports is hidden.
If I take a card down, do other people's Beffs disappear?
Taking a card down removes it from the community list; Beffs other people already added stay as they are.
